Volunteer Vacancy
Amina is a unique scheme run by Eaves. It pairs women who have overcome experiences of sexual violence (e.g. rape, sexual abuse or sexual assault) with women who would like support. Together they learn from one another's experiences, share strengths and successes, and women feel less alone at a difficult time.
Amina volunteers don't have to be trained counsellors or qualified in any way; in fact we prefer them to be everyday women who want to help others who are in the position they were once in.
If you decide to apply for Amina then we will ask you to come in and meet a member of staff to see if we think Amina volunteering is right for you.
All volunteers we accept will need to attend a training course, it is around 6 days long, but it is broken into chunks to fit around your other commitments. We can offer child care payments during training.
The course includes information about sexual violence (ways people often react, myths about rape in the media etc), teaches volunteers how to advocate for women, and helps with listening skills. We'll also provide access to a support group run by independent counsellors to help deal with any feelings that volunteering brings up. After the training volunteering should only take around 2 hours a week, with a little bit extra for support sessions.
More information and an application form are enclosed. Any information you give is completely confidential. Feel free to give me a call if you have any questions or would like a chat about applying; I’m usually available from 10:00am - 5:00pm Monday to Friday.
