IMKAAN and Newham Asian Women's Project
Imkaan is a project managed by Newham Asian Women's Project, and provides advocacy, capacity building, training, and policy development support to Asian women's refuges. NAWP also runs specialist services for young women.
Southall Black Sisters
SBS are a respected resource centre and black women's group involved in struggles over racism, domestic violence, forced marriages, prisoners and other issues. They also lobby the Government.
South Asian Women's Refuge Project
South Asian Women's Refuge Project is based in Southwark and offers refuge, support & advice for Asian women & children.
Sahara Asian Women's Project
SAWP is based in Reading but covers the UK, offering a range of services to Asian women experiencing domestic violence, including a safe house with resident childcare worker, a range of support services, out of hours service and a team of outreach workers offering support. Offers assistance with learning English and developing other life skills.
Asha Projects
A national non-profit making organisation that runs two first stage safe houses in South London and a Resource Centre for women, children and single young girls fleeing from domestic violence and abuse. Services provided at the Resource Centre include legal advice and assistance, counselling, housing, advocacy, and health-related issues. All services are provided in Hindi, Punjabi, Gujarati, Bengali and Urdu.
Asian Women's Resource Centre
AWRC provides a range of services including information and advice to Asian women who speak Hindu, Gujarati, Urdu, and Punjabi. Some services offered are advice and information on youth employment, sexual health, housing and domestic violence matters.
Chinese Information and Advice Centre
Information and advice service specialising in immigration and nationality, employment, domestic violence or matrimonial problems for Chinese people in Greater London area. Provides a publication called the 'London Chinese Community Service Directory' listing Chinese centres in London, the catchment area for each centre, how they are reached by public transport, the range of services provided, the Chinese dialects catered for and the positions of staff. Copies of the directory may be ordered directly from the CIAC.
Akina Mama wa Afrika
AMwA is an international, pan-African, non-governmental development organisation for African women based in the UK with an Africa regional office in Kampala, Uganda. AMwA was set up in 1985 by women from different parts of Africa resident in the United Kingdom. Translated from Swahili, the name means 'solidarity among African women', signifying African sisterhood. AMwA was founded to create space for African women to organise, and build links with African women active in the areas of their own development.
Ashiana Project
The Ashiana Project provides safe housing for south Asian, Turkish & Iranian women between the ages of 16-30 who are threatened with, or experiencing verbal, physical, sexual or emotional abuse. Ashiana also provides an outreach service at a personal and community level and a programme of educational service and advice work with young people of school age.
