Organisations dealing with domestic violence

The Greater London Domestic Violence Project

The GLDVP is a second tier support agency which provides support to other organisations (both statutory and voluntary) providing services to domestic violence survivors.

Women's Aid Federation of England (Women's Aid)

WAFE is the national charity working to end domestic violence against women and children. Their website gives more detailed information of their many services.

Refuge

Refuge provides accommodation and support for women and children escaping domestic violence, specialist support for children in refuges, counselling, and specialist refuges for women from ethnic minorities, resettlement, and community outreach services. Refuge also provide continued support in moving on.

Paws for Kids

Paws for Kids is a unique charity in the UK which 'fosters' the pet animals of women and children escaping domestic violence. A survey of women escaping violence found that 94% said if there had been a pet fostering service it would have made it easier for them to leave the violence, and so spare themselves and their children more abuse.

Action Against Elder Abuse

A national organisation that aims to prevent abuse by promoting changes through education, raising awareness and policy changes. Helpline available in English, Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi and Welsh. National information and enquiry service.

Family Service Units

FSU is a national charity, providing preventive support services to Britain's poorest families. Tackle a wide range of problems including family breakdown, parenting difficulties, discrimination, domestic violence, behavioural and schooling concerns and depression. Units target the specific need of the multi-ethnic communities they work with and overcome difficult situations before they escalate into a crisis.
